Hi… my name is Safari.

Adopted March 12, 2015

You don’t see many gals like me around even though my breed (Xoloitzcuintle or Xolo for short!) has been around for thousands of years! Your first thought might be, “Oh, boy — Mexican hairless! — no grooming to worry about,” but you’d be wrong. Just like humans, we need some sun protection and periodic bathing to keep our skin nice and moist, but with a little girl like me, that should be a snap. Although most of my time will be spent in your lap, I do love a nice stroll every day (where I walk nicely in the “heel” position!), playing with my toys, and romping with other small dogs. I’ve never been around kids, so I think it would be great to have a stay-at-home mom or dad to lavish my love on!

Hi… my name is Casey,

Adopted May 21, 2016

Casey has received his American Kennel Club (AKC)  Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification and he has also learned how to carry a backpack (which will be part of his going-home packet).

You don’t see too many Chesapeake Bay retrievers here in Arizona, much less in shelters! I suppose I’m not a purebred though because their coats are curlier than mine, but I’ve got the same personality traits (happy, intelligent, gentle, tolerant, and active!). I wandered onto the property of a family in Sahuarita to play with their female Staffie, and “just stuck around.” They said I was a very sweet guy who got along great with their 7-year-old daughter, and loved to play “tug-of-war” with a rope. So trust me, if you’re looking for a big, happy-go-lucky companion, you’ll find that the folks in Maryland knew what they were doing when they chose me as their state dog!

Arrived January 4, 2015.
